Jehoiakim’s Reign and Babylonian Pressure

23
Chapter 23
36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebudah, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah. 37 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

Chapter 24
1 In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel went up, and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him. 2 And the LORD sent against him raiding parties of Chaldeans, raiding parties of Aram, raiding parties of Moab, and raiding parties of the sons of Ammon, and he sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD which he spoke by the hand of his servants the prophets. 3 Surely by the mouth of the LORD it came about in Judah to remove them from his presence because of the sin of Manasseh, according to all that he had done. 4 And also because of the innocent blood that he shed—for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood—and the LORD would not forgive. 5 Now the rest of the words of Jehoiakim and all that he did—are they not written in the Book of the Words of the Days for the Kings of Judah? 6 And Jehoiakim lay down with his fathers, and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place. 7 And the king of Egypt did not go out from his land anymore, for the king of Babel had taken from the river of Egypt to the river Euphrates all that belonged to the king of Egypt.
